RATES
Edge-to-Edge Quilting
Square Inch Pricing
I charge 2 cents per square inch for all designs.
Example: A quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .02 = $96.
My minimum quilting charge is $50. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.
Batting
I use and stock my favorite: Quilters Dream Batting.
-
80/20 Natural (Cotton/Poly Blend) - Midloft ($0.33/in)
-
Dream Wool (100% Wool)- Light Yet Lofty ($0.44/in)
-
Natural Cotton Deluxe (100% Cotton) - Weighty Loft ($0.48/in)
-
Dream Bamboo (Silk, Bamboo, Cotton, Tencel) - Midloft ($0.40/in)
Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price.
I charge for batting by the linear inch from a king roll (80/20) and queen rolls (Wool, 100% Cotton, Bamboo) of batting except in the case of special orders. I will use only what is needed for your quilt (smallest side + a 5" margin) and charge per inch.
For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt, I would cut 65" of the batting of your choice.
65" of 80/20 cotton/poly blend @ $0.33/in = $21.45
You may also choose to send batting to me if you prefer a different one than what I stock. Just ensure the length and width include an extra 5" margin.
For example, if you send a 60" x 80" quilt, send batting that is at least 65" x 85".
Seams
I offer the seaming of fabric pieces together for $15/seam.
This is most frequently requested for assistance in piecing backing fabric.
Thread
There is a flat $4 thread (and needle) fee added for each quilt.
We stock Glide #40 weight and Premo-Soft #50 weight thread in neutral colors.
Glide has a beautiful luster finish, and Premo-Soft has a softer, cotton like finish. Glide is a thicker thread, and quilting stitches will "pop" a bit more on the quilt, while Premo-Soft stitches will blend into the quilt fabric.
Thread color is a very personal choice. Some quilters prefer to blend the thread into the lightest, and most dominant color on the quilt, while other quilters prefer complimentary contrast. Please let us know if you have a preference, or if you'd like some suggestions to complete the artistic composition you are looking for.
Shipping
Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in California, USA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I recommend sending your materials enclosed in a plastic bag to protect against possible moisture in transit, and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly.
Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical). Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number, but please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it.
Other Costs
As mentioned above, batting is not included in the square inch price, and there is a flat $4 thread and needle fee added per quilt. A new needle is used for each quilt to ensure the cleanest quilting.
I'm required by the State of California to collect a 7.75% sales tax on quilting services and batting. This tax will be listed on the invoice. This applies to California residents only.
